ASM President Engages in Global Science Diplomacy at STS Forum 2023

ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, was in Kyoto, Japan on 2 October 2023 to participate in the 20^th Annual Meeting of Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum.

Over the weekend, he was involved in the STS Forum: Science and Technology Advisors’ Round Table 2023. Together with Science Advisors from around the world, such as Japan, the UK, the US and Italy, the main discussion focused on the role of S&T advisors in the Era of Changing World.

ASM President also accompanied the Minister of MOSTI, YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, in a session with the Japan Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Minister of MOSTI proposed open science collaboration with Japan through MOSP to strengthen R&D. The agenda continued with MOSTI-MIGHT-ASM discussion with the National Research Foundation Singapore on the startup ecosystem and ASM President session with S&T Co-Advisors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on science and technology literacy and diplomacy.

Throughout the STS Forum, the ASM President will also have an Academy of Science Presidents’ Meeting with the theme of ‘Recovery and Conservation of the Ocean’s Ecosystems and Biodiversity’. He will also schedule to meet with the Japan Science & Technology (JST) President to discuss further the Strategic International Collaborative Research Programme and International Collaboration for the Malaysia Science Endowment.
