During the midweek, ASM President Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc undertook a visit to Sabah. This visit marked his inaugural official engagement to Sabah after he assumed the esteemed position on 1 March 2023.
On 24 August 2023, Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman had a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister of Sabah, YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Hj Hajiji Haji Noor and a separate meeting with the Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation Sabah, YB Datuk Dr Haji Mohd Arifin Datuk Haji Mohd Arif (JP). These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss and gain insight into Sabah’s current challenges. With its network of diverse experts, ASM offers solutions in areas like Precision Biodiversity, Blue Economy, and science education. Additionally, ASM expressed its readiness to provide experts for Sabah’s planned rocket launch site, benefiting the ASEAN region.
On the same day, the ASM President also attended the launching of Minggu Sains Negara Peringkat Negeri Sabah and visited the IBSE Workshop in conjunction with the Kembara Sains Borneo Siri 1. Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman also met with the ASM Sabah Chapter members to gain insight into their engagement and contributions within Sabah.
On 25 August 2023, the ASM President extended a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of University Malaysia Sabah, YBhg. Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Hj Md Mansur. Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman expressed gratitude for UMS’s assistance and partnership in organising Kembara Sains Borneo Siri 1 and the IBSE workshop. The discussions also explored potential collaborations between ASM and UMS, particularly concerning the MOSP, Digitalisation & IoT Programme for Biodiversity, Precision Biodiversity Alliance, and Imbak Canyon.
ASM sincerely thanks the Sabah government for the exceptionally warm and gracious welcome. On this positive momentum, ASM anticipates a future of robust collaboration and impactful initiatives that will advance the scientific and well-being of the people in Sabah.
