May 16, 2022The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation Sabah (KSTI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) based on partnership and cooperation to develop science, technology, and innovation-based programmes.
The MoU would see the two organisations working in unity to utilise STI in providing solutions in the Land Below the Wind to elevate the socioeconomic status of its rural population. Programmes that have been planned to achieve the objective are:
- Implementing smart pole and wireless bridging systems to improve internet coverage in rural areas.
- Assessing the potential of carrying out Smart Sanitation for Water Settlement using Independent Sewerage Treatment Plants.
- Analysing the Blue Model Economy to suit Sabah’s marine environment.
- Carrying out social innovation projects.
In addition to the visionary projects above, KSTI and ASM will continue efforts to encourage STI engagement among school student and the public through various programmes by the Young Scientists Network-ASM, as well as the Sabah State Level National Science Challenge (NSC) Competition.
