November 14, 2024On 18 October 2024, ASM, in collaboration with the Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI), hosted a Regional Stakeholder Engagement (RSE), bringing together key stakeholders from across the region to exchange insights aimed at shaping both the Science Outlook 2025 (SO2025) study and the 10-10 Malaysia Science, Technology, Innovation, and Economy (10-10 MySTIE 2.0) framework.
The SO2025 study will evaluate the performance of Sarawak’s Science, Technology, Innovation, and Economy (STIE) ecosystem, focusing on economic, societal, and environmental impacts. In parallel, the 10-10 MySTIE Transformation Book 2.0 will explore new socio-economic and technological opportunities for Sarawak’s development.
The event was officiated by Puan Ivy Lim Chen Chen, Head of the Macroeconomic Planning Division of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) Sarawak, who set the tone for the discussions. This was followed by an opening address by the ASM President, Academician Datuk Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen FASc, along with presentations from the ASM CEO, Puan Hazami Habib, and Encik Roderick Sunang Billin, representing the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD), who provided an overview of Sarawak’s current STIE ecosystem.
The breakout discussions were led by Professor Dr Shahrina Md Nordin FASc ACM, Deputy Chairperson of Science Outlook 2025 and Professor Mahendhiran Nair, Chairperson of 10-10 MySTIE studies, who guided the participants in addressing Sarawak’s unique challenges and laying the foundation for a resilient and dynamic STIE ecosystem to drive the state’s socio-economic growth.
