Implementation of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) research data in Open Science is a crucial key to allow free flow of knowledge across disciplines and regions. Knowing the importance of grasping the knowledge and experience from Open Science experts, Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) has organized Dialogue on Open Science in University of Malaya on 14th February 2020. The event was attended by about 60 participants from various research institutions around Malaysia. The dialogue session was led by Professor Dr Barend Mons who spoke on the future of data stewards and FAIR Principles. The session was then followed by presentation from Dr Ross Wilkinson. Dr Ross spoke on the ‘Data Journey in Australia’ by sharing the challenges in establishment of Australia National Data Services (ANDS) and the Ideal Research Data System.
In short, the presenters discussed on the challenges and issues faced in research and data sharing in their countries and ways forward to tackle the related problems mainly focusing on infrastructure and capacity building. This session has provided an avenue for sharing best practices, experiences, knowledge as well as providing an opportunity for Malaysia to learn best practices on pursuing the Open Science agenda at the national level.
