On the 25th of August, 2021, the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in collaboration with WILEY, had organized a “Malaysia Open Science Forum 2021”. Puan Hazami Habib (the Chief Executive Officer of Academy of Sciences Malaysia) and Mr Katsu Arai (the Director of Library Sales, APAC, Wiley) were the Guest of Honor in this event. The event featured librarians and researchers to share about their perspectives and roles as well as their institutions involvement in Open Science. The opening keynote speech was given by Ms Alice Wood, as a publisher from WILEY on the landscape of open science around the world and Asia Pacific. The forum was structured into two parts, where Part 1 involved case studies presented by Ms Gabi Wong (Head of Research Support, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) and Mr Muhammad Akmal Ahmat (Senior Librarian, Universiti Sains Malaysia).
In Part 2 of the forum, a discussion on the future of Open Science in Malaysia was moderated by Ms Alice Wood. The invited panelists were Prof Dr Shaliza Ibrahim (Associate Vice Chancellor of Research & Innovation, Universiti Malaya), Prof Dr Mohd Juzaiddin Ab Aziz (Professor of the Centre for Software, Technology and Management, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) and Associate Prof Dr Wong Li Pei (Associate Professor of School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia).
Evidently, the three hours event proved to be a successful sharing session and provided an opportunity to learn how other library and faculty leaders are supporting researchers in their Open Science journey.
