The official launching of Malaysia Open Science Platform (MOSP) Initiative took place at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on 7 November 2019. The event was a great success and attended by more than 200 participants from all around Malaysia. The MOSP initiative was launched by YB Yeo Bee Yin, the former Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC).
In her speech, YB Yeo emphasized that MOSP will be a systematic, trusted and safe research data sharing platform which aligns with national and international best practices. The first phase of this initiative will embark research data and publication sharing between five universities and 15 institutes under MOSTI. This digital data sharing platform will eventually chart a new path for research collaborations and open innovation, thus completing the I-connect initiative.
The event was followed by a forum held in the afternoon entitled ‘Exploratory Discourse: Charting the Way Forward on Open Science’. The forum was moderated by Academician Professor Emerita Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman FASc, the Director of International Science Council (ISC) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. Among the forum panellists were Professor Dr Kazutsuna Yamaji (Director of Research Centre for Open Science and Data Platforms, National Institute of Informatics, Japan), Andrew Howard (Cloud Team Manager, National Computational Infrastructure (NCI), Australia), Professor Dr Abrizah Abdullah from University of Malaya and Mallek Abdullah from Alpha Catalyst Consulting.
