On 25th May 2021, The Malaysia Open Science Platform (MOSP) of Academy of Sciences Malaysia together with the Capacity Building & Awareness Working Group organized an online webinar entitled “Bridging the Gap in Research Ecosystem”. The webinar was initiated by the Chairperson of Malaysia Open Science Alliance, Prof. Dr. Noorsaadah Abd Rahman FASc with a brief introduction on open science in Malaysia and the objectives of Malaysia Open Science Initiatives. The Director of Digital Government Division from Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Dr. Fazidah Abu Bakar was invited as the keynote speaker in the webinar. She delivered an informative speech on the process and improvement of governing Data Driven Ecosystem in Malaysia. The webinar was then moderated by Dr. Nurzatil Sharleeza Mat Jalaluddin, Senior Lecturer of Center for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR) of University Malaya to chair a discussion on what to be done and how to support open science in the current research ecosystem. The webinar panelists included Dr. Liew Chee Sun (Head of the Infrastructure Working Group), Dr. Suhaimi Napis (Founder and Chief Innovation Officer at SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation) and Mr. Yasser Mohamed Arifin (Assistant Secretary Division of Biodiversity Management, Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources (KeTSA)).
