Professor Dr Rosli Md Illias has extensive research experience in enzymology and microbial biocatalyst. He has been involved in pioneering molecular enzymology research in Malaysia. His contribution to microbiology and structural genomics is outstanding. Professor Dr Rosli’s expertise is highly sought after at the national level. He was directly involved in the development and implementation of the national programme in genomics and molecular biology initiated by the Malaysia Genome Institute (MGI), MOSTI, in 2005. He provided MGI with a review of several ongoing worldwide consortia Structural Genomics (SG)  based in UK, Canada and USA. In 2010, he was appointed as Co-Project Leader and Principal Associate Researcher when MOSTI signed an MOU with Monash University in Clayton, Australia. He led a team of 37 researchers from various institutes and universities. Apart from research, Professor Dr Rosli has also contributed by taking up leadership roles. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences and Bioengineering (2010 – 2012), and Head of Department of Bioprocess Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (1998 – 2002) in UTM. He was involved in the establishment of an innovative Biomolecular and Microbial Process (BIOMIP) Research Group, and he is the head of the group since 2009. In addition to that, he is currently the Chair for Health and Wellness Research Alliance and has been involved in numerous policymaking of research in UTM. His significant contribution to UTM is the formulation of the UTM Research and Innovation Blueprint 2025. He is also a Senate member, Chief Editor of ‘Jurnal Teknologi’ and Research Fellow at Institute of Bioproducts Development (IBD). Professor Dr Rosli has provided guidance and training to a large number of young scientists in genomics, molecular biology and enzyme engineering. He has also been involved as an expert panel for research, development and commercialisation projects for MOSTI. He also serves MOHE  as a panel for Research Fund, external assessor for promotion to Professorship and Associate Professor, as well as an auditor for Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HiCoE). His H-index is 26 (SCOPUS) with a citation of 1,963.
