Prof Dato’ Dr Kamaruzzaman Sopian graduated with the BS Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985, the MS in the Energy Resources University of Pittsburgh in 1989 and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Dorgan Solar Laboratory, the University of Miami-Coral Gables in 1997. He is currently the Professor of Renewable Energy and Director of the Solar Energy Research Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.  His main contributions in renewable energy are in advanced solar photovoltaic systems (solar-powered regenerative fuel cell, solar hydrogen production) and advanced solar thermal systems (solar cooling, solar heat pump, solar-assisted drying, combined photovoltaic thermal or hybrid collector). He is the Joint Vice Chairman of the World Renewable Energy Network, United Kingdom.  He was appointed as Honorary Professor at Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL).  He was conferred the Darjah Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP) by His Royal Highness The Sultan of Perak in 2013. He is a registered Professional Technologist (Green Technology) with the Board of Technologists Malaysia (BEM). A Fellow of the Malaysia Academy of Sciences (FSc) and listed in the 2019-2021 Highly Cited Researchers, Web of Science Group, Clarivate Analytics.
