Academician Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali is currently the Joint-Chairman (Industry) of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), a government-Industry Think-Tank for promoting High Technology investments in Malaysia. Tan Sri Tajuddin is actively involved in several companies and statutory bodies in various capacities. Currently he is holding the Chairmanships of the Board of Linde Malaysia Holdings Berhad, SIRIM Berhad, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Optimax Holdings Berhad. He is also a member of the Board of Institut Integriti Malaysia (IIM). He is also the Joint-Chairman (Government) of Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre (AMIC). Tan Sri Tajuddin is currently a member of Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and a member of Advisory Council of Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Mahathir Science Award Foundation, Yayasan UTeM and the Board of Governors of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, his alma mater. Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin is also the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). He was previously the Director-General of Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), then the Chairman and Chief Executive of the national power company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Chairman of the Energy Commission Malaysia, Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd, UEM Group Berhad, UEM Sunrise Berhad, PLUS Expressways International Berhad, Zelan Berhad, Tricubes Berhad, Opus Group Berhad, Opus International Limited, Sime Engineering Services Berhad and Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB). He was previously a Director of Sime Darby Berhad and the President of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from King's College, University of London in 1973 and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1977. He did post-doctoral work in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (1977-1978) and at Pennsylvania State University (1978). He is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers (P.Eng), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (FIEM), a Fellow of The ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO), a Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET) and a Senior Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia which carries the title “Academician”. Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2000, Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in 2008, Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) in 2009, Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in 2014 and in November 2015, he was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and in 2017 he was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate of Management Degree by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). He attended the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme in 1994. • In 1994, Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin was bestowed the Special Award by Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) for his contribution towards enhancing exports of Malaysian products to Japan. • In 1996, Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin received the Institution of Engineers Malaysia Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Engineering Profession. • In 2009, he received the “Prominent Player” Award from the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB). • In November 2018, Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin, was conferred the award of “The Order of The Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” by the Government of Japan for his contribution towards promoting economic relations between Japan and Malaysia.
