Academy of Sciences Malaysia through Malaysia Open Science Alliance is developing the National Policy and Guidelines of Open Science in Malaysia to help steer the implementation of Open Science in the country.
OVERVIEW
The Academy of Sciences Malaysia and Malaysia Open Science Alliance Malaysia Working Group on Policy and Guidelines have conducted its First Stakeholder Engagement Workshop for Open Science, which was held virtually via Microsoft Teams on 4 June 2020. The objective of the workshop was to elicit and consolidate inputs from participants for the formulation of National Policy and Guidelines of Open Science in Malaysia. Over 60 stakeholders from various background, including researchers, top management universities, librarians, research managers, legal units and industry shared their thoughts and inputs to strategize methods and approaches for developing a more effective implementation for Malaysia Open Science Platform initiative to result in increased program impact.
PROGRAM AGENDA
The Workshop was officiated by the Chair of Malaysia Open Science Alliance, Professor Dr Noorsaadah Abd Rahman, FASc. To encourage a more effective discussion, the workshop participants were grouped into three parallel sessions for two rounds. The Workshop was concluded by discussion in plenary, providing a summary of recommendations from the parallel sessions. The list of discussion topics are as follow:
- Topic 1: Formulation of National Policy and Guidelines for Open Science in Malaysia
- Topic 2: Building responsibilities, support and policy for the development of appropriate skills for data stewards and data curators
- Topic 3: Security and trust issues: Towards building a trusted data-sharing platform
- Topic 4: Ownership and re-use in data sharing practices
- Topic 5: When researchers say, what are the carrots they will get when sharing research data, how the policymakers should respond?
- Topic 6: Imagining the look of Malaysia Open Science Platform architecture and formulating approaches to develop a sustainable framework
