A Registered Professional Geologist, Dr Shamshuddin Jusop graduated from the University of Malaya (BS), Newcastle University, UK (MS) and Ghent University, Belgium (DSc). He was a former Professor of Soil Science and Senior Research Fellow in UPM. He was a visiting professor at the University of Queensland (Australia) and Ghent University (Belgium) and was the first holder of the SEARCA Professorial Chair in Malaysia.
Dr Shamshuddin is a leading pedologists not only in Malaysia, but also Southeast Asia. His research contribution helps improve crop growth and sustains its production (rice, maize, cocoa, oil palm and rubber). He sits in the editorial board of many journals, international (e.g. Geoderma) and Malaysian (e.g. Malays. J. Soil Sci.). Among the best of his books is “The Earth Story: Lessons from the Quran and Science”, which explains about the universe as discovered by science and mentioned in the Quran.
He is a Fellow and the Past President, Malaysian Society of Soil Science. He was also the Past President, East and Southeast Asia Federation of Soil Science Societies. He is an Honorary Member, Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences (Belgium) and Fellow, Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He was conferred the S&T Award by the Malaysia Toray Science Foundation.
