Professor Dr Amin Ismail is known for his expertise in chemistry, biochemistry of foods and nutritional science. He has contributed to the promotion of ‘health-promoting components of local produce’ for improving the quality of life and health well-being. He actively contributes his expertise at national, regional, and international levels by serving as a member in scientific committees, an expert panel for research consultation programmes and research mentoring programmes, and an assessor for academic promotion. He often speaks at conferences, seminars, and workshops as a Plenary and Guest speaker. Since 2012, he is a Visiting Researcher at the Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nanning, China. He is a member of the National Technical Working Group for Food Composition Database and National Technical Working Group on Nutritional Guidelines at MOH Malaysia. In 2018, Professor Dr Amin was bestowed Malaysia’s Research Star Award in a high impact paper for the “Agricultural Sciences” category. Professor Dr Amin has published more than 250 publications, authored several books and contributed several chapters in his research areas. His H-index is 43 (SCOPUS), with a total citation of 8,054. Currently, he serves as a member of several editorial boards of national and international journals. He is an Associate Editor for “Food Chemistry” (Elsevier) and Food Frontier (Springer), Guest Editor for a special issue published by Food Chemistry in 2020. Professor Dr Amin has collaborated with several research institutes and industries, namely the Malaysia Cocoa Board (MCB), the Forestry Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM), the Malaysian Agricultural Research Development Institute (MARDI), Golden Hope Fruits and Beverages Industry Sdn Bhd, Kotra Pharma (M) Sdn Bhd, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Professor Dr Amin has held several administrative posts since 2005. He served as the Head of the Food Quality Laboratory, Centre of Strategic Studies and Food Innovation, UPM, in 2005. Later, he led the Laboratory of Halal Science, Halal Research Products Institute, UPM and was also the Programme Coordinator for Bachelor Science (Nutrition and Community Health) from 2009 - 2012. He was later appointed as the Deputy Dean (Graduate Student Affairs & Industry and Community Relations), which he served from 2012 - 2016. He is a Member of the UPM Senate and a member of several main committees at UPM. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee to Minister of Education, Malaysia for Appealing of Academic Program Accreditation.
