Professor Dr Misni Misran is a chemist of Colloid chemistry specialising in nanoparticles with its cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical applications. He is the Deputy Dean of Research in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya. He has one granted patent under his belt on “Oil in water cream emulsion composition” and 11 more pending patents on nanoparticles in relation to drug delivery. He has been cited 917 times, and his H-index is 17. He has supervised 13 PhD and 27 MSc students and currently supervises 12 ongoing postgraduates. Other than that, he has played an active advisory and consultancy role to various universities and several major local industries such as SIRIM Berhad, Polylab Biotech Sdn Bhd, and Petronas Penapisan Melaka. He has also been active in motivating school students through his participation in the pre-congress addressing school bullying problem. Professor Dr Misni was previously the Director of UM’s Oleopharma Sdn Bhd. His experience in market-driven research and dealings with industry has provided him with strong international linkages in USA and China, in addition to main local industry players such as Sime Darby Bioganic Sdn Bhd. He was awarded a silver medal from Switzerland international exhibition in 2005 for the invention of glycolipid-based cream for cosmetics from naturally derived surfactants. Locally, he won a gold medal for the invention of glycolipid-based cream at the 2006 Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE).
