Professor Dr Mustafa Ali Mohd is well recognized in the area of endocrine disruptors and environmental toxicology. The most significant contribution by him is the assess of the ‘Bisphonel A’ found in babies feeding bottles, which ultimately led to the ban of     ‘Bisphenol A’ in many countries including Malaysia in March 2012. He is also an authority in analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry and chromatography and he is well-acclaimed for his policy-influencing work on ‘Bisphenol A’, his MITRA drug abuse test kit and his commercialization of the Hibiscus drink and bitter-gourd extract.

Professor Dr Mustafa has been actively involved in the administration and management of Universiti Malaya (UM) through his appointment in numerous posts. He was appointed as Head, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine (2005-2006), promoted to Deputy Dean (2006-2010) and currently, he served as Deputy Director, University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) (August 2010 – present).

In spite of his various demanding administrative duties at UM, he also contributed to various committees at the international and national levels. He is the scientific advisor to WHO and UN on chemical hazards and environmental pollution. He acts as an advisor to the Ministry of Health, Malaysia in food quality control division and drinking water quality division.

Prof Dr Mustaffa has excelled in both research and publications; books; refereed journals and research reports which were published in leading journals and conferences proceedings (h index = 14, no of citation = 838). He has also written more than 40 scientific articles for general public reading. In 2012, he has been selected as one of the Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) for his outstanding achievements and performances in research. He was awarded the Excellent Scientist Award from Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, 2005 and Gold Medal at 33rd International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Product of Geneva, 2005.
