Professor Dr Maznah Dahlui is an established public health expert, especially in areas related to health economics. She has demonstrated excellent organisational capabilities in her organisation and has been given additional responsibilities, which she has handled expertly. Her vast knowledge augments her excellent leadership skills in her field of expertise at both institution and national levels. She served for 14 years in MOH and worked as an entrepreneur before becoming a UM academic in 2003. She has conducted many economic evaluations of Malaysia’s policies and programmes for MOH, MOHR and the Prime Minister’s Department. Her research interests centre around applying economic evaluation approaches for cancer screening, infectious diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C, adolescent health, especially on mental health, and obesity prevention. Her H-index is 17 (SCOPUS), with a citation of 989. Professor Dr Maznah’s international credentials are outstanding with research collaborations with the Sanger Institute, Cambridge University (UK) in the Salt Reduction Study; Kirby Institute, UNSW (Australia) in the Return of Investment of Harm Reduction Programme; and the University of Usmanu Danfodia, Sokoto (Nigeria) on sexual reproductive health issues under the auspices of the Africa-Asia Development University Network (AADUN), among others. She has established good linkages with UNFPA, UNESCO, World Bank and WHO, which have led to several consultancy projects centred on the evaluation and monitoring of local and foreign health programmes. Her leadership and networking skills are demonstrated in her involvement in a leadership role at the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH), the biggest public health consortium in the Asia Pacific. At the national level, she has been actively engaging NGOs and the urban poor and rural communities for breast cancer screening and to combat chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. She was appointed as Chair for the National Clearinghouse for Adolescent Health in Malaysia and Chair of the Technical Committee of Health Technology Economic Evaluation (TACHTEE), Malaysia. Her expertise has also been recognised with appointments such as Technical Advisor for ASEAN University Network on Health Promotion and Visiting Professor of University of Airlangga, Indonesia.
