The Science Outlook 2015: Action Towards Vision is a report by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia that aims to provide an independent review and insights on the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) landscape in Malaysia and the way forward. The Science Outlook 2015 focused on the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation 2013-2020 (NPSTI) and its six strategic trusts as a basic to examine issues and matters related to the following;
- STI Governence,
- Research, Development & Commercialisation,
- STI Talent,
- Energising Industries,
- STI Enculturation, and
- Strategic International Alliances.

The Mega Science Framework Study for Sustained National Development for the period 2010-2050 (or the Mega Science Agenda: Malaysia 2050) is a structured, practical and sustainable model that transforms the business of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for Malaysia.
The outputs of the Study will provide advisory inputs on a continuous basis to the government on the strategic STI options, opportunities and priorities in support of the nation’s socio-economic agenda. (The output will be the basis of ideas that researchers, both from public and private sectors, can further develop into ultimately commercial products/ventures.)
The implementation strategy and framework will be the key foundation in ensuring sustainability and growth for the various potential opportunities identified.
As part of the Mega Science 2050 Agenda, five other major Sectors had been identified for implementation in the second phase. These sectors were deemed to have the highest propensity for STI sustainable development and growth.

" Housing is a catalyst for socio-economic development and poverty reduction that cuts across almost every other indicator for human development. Access to adequate and affordable housing prevents injury, disease and premature death; increases household and national income; and provides socio-political stability " (UN, 2011).
There is a need to build houses that are suitable for Malaysia's climate as well as taking into consideration the need to mitigate natural disasters such as floods. As well as controlling the rising costs of housing construction.

The goals of infrastructure are to enable all people to have decent life, have access to the basic social and cultural amenities and, equally important, to assist in the economic development of a country. A country will not be efficient if it has no physical infrastructure. An efficient and high performing infrastructure will enable a country or a region to play their rightful role in the world economy. An affordable infrastructure that reaches out to the masses and key segments of the society and an infrastructure developed taking into consideration the cultural norms of the society would be deemed to have achieved a measure of sustainability itself.

Transportation can be defined as a network that includes several distinct but interlinked components: infrastructure, urban planning, vehicles and instruments, operational and administrative procedures, ICT applications related to the infrastructure and on-board network services. The optimal operation of all these components determines the capability to move people and goods effectively and efficiently. By optimising the capacity of the network and better exploiting the relative advantages of very mode, problems such as congestion, emissions, accidents, pollution etcetera, it can be reduced. Such optimization demands the enhancement and operation of the transportation network as a whole, a set of carefully planned developments and expansions of the Malaysian transportation sector inside the size-fixed territory of the country is becoming extremely crucial. Science and technology – which has in the past contributed to the quick movements of human beings through the invention of cars, trains, ships and airplanes – shall again be the key to the needed solutions for the problem.
An intelligent, highly efficient, clean, safe and sustainable transport industry is sought after in almost every major city in the World.

Malaysia’s participation in the compound semiconductor industry is an encouraging initiative that requires serious efforts by various parties. The compound semiconductor industry will continue to grow due to huge demand from LED display, smart-phones, high-power applications and the telecommunication industries. It is very important for Malaysia to gain a significant market share in this industry.

Day after day, environmental issues are highlighted in the media. It may be water shortages for one month, followed by flooding and tropical storms the next month, then by landslides, garbage overflow, disease epidemics, and so on, seemingly without end. Firefighting is the usual reaction by the harassed authorities. We realize that solutions based on holistic knowledge are necessary but to arrive at such solutions and to implement them, we need public officials to understand the environment in totality, supported by a well-informed and supportive public and backed by science and technology.
